What is Powder Coating?

Powder Coating is an advanced method of applying a decorative and protective finish to a wide range of materials and products. The powder used for the process is a mixture of finely ground particles of pigment and resin which is sprayed electrostatically onto the surface. They are then cured in our oven at 180 – 200 degrees. The result is a uniform, durability, high quality and attractive finish completely dry when it comes out of the oven.

Powder coating can be used across a wide range of products and industries. Gates & fencing, balustrades, garage doors, light fittings, door/window frames, security screens, marine & automotive parts, motor & bike parts, home and garden furnishings etc the list is unlimited. If in doubt, please contact us at Burleigh Powder Coating, here on the Gold Coast.

Pre-Treatment Process

At Burleigh Powder Coating we not only use quality powders, we use quality chemicals for pre-treatment supplied by Chemetall, Australia’s market leader. Chemetall products give a high quality finished surface with excellent adhesion + long term durable anti-corrosion performance.

  1. Acid bath clears and etches for the powder to adhere to
  2. Rinse thoroughly
  3. Chromate bath reinforces adhesion and provides anti-corrosion protection resulting in a high quality finish and longer life.
  4. Final rinse
  5. Ready now to clean manually with prep wash and then Powder Coat.

Restoration

In most cases depending on the type of steel burning & sandblasting is required to completely remove any surface contaminants leaving an etched surface for the powder to adhere to. We support local businesses for these processes.

  1. Burning – if required to break up powder or paint on the surface making it quicker & cheaper to sandblast
  2. Sandblasting – to remove old surface and take back to bare metal stage leaving an etch for powder to adhere
  3. A good quality primer is then applied and cured in the oven
  4. The final powder colour of your choice is then applied & cured in oven for a quality finish
